Shall We Talk? Discussion Group
Please accept this invitation to join a discussion group that will take place every 2nd Tuesday evening under the leadership of some of the members of last year’s book club. Its purpose is to offer a different way to grow in faith. Various topics will be the focus of the discussions – some may appeal to you, some may not. Please come when you want!
The focus will be on learning from each other by sharing views and thoughts and experiences that relate to matters of faith as individuals have come to view them over the course of their own life’s journey – no matter how long that trip has been so far! An important part of discussion-based learning is to consider many thoughts and experiences, share views and realize that, for many matters, there is no such thing as right or wrong views. Instead, there may be many thoughts during one’s experience – joy, sorrow, anger, fear, success, failure – some of the things we look to our faith to help us with.
It has been said that part of our “Protestant Tradition” is that we develop our system of beliefs by thinking and questioning and learning and challenging our faith. Life is not simple. We can look at faith matters from the perspective of Rev. Jim’s sermons, by what the General Council of the United Church says, or by what the Bible says. We can also look to each other, to our experiences, to the media, to books and to other sources to help us grow!
Please consider joining us on Tuesday, September 27 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Fellowship Room at the church. Our first topic is on “Forgiveness”. Should be interesting!
No one can tell you what to believe, you have to figure it out for
yourself – hopefully with a little help from your friends!
