Children & Youth
Philosophy
Northlea United’s hope is that the infants, children and youth of the congregation and surrounding community feel welcome and at home in this congregation and in the United Church in general. We strive to provide them with a spiritual and religious foundation that is meaningful to them, and which will grow with them over their lives.
Northlea’s Children & Youth committee coordinates and overseas the programs and events that happen throughout the church year.
Sunday Mornings
Northlea’s curriculum is designed to teach the children about Christian faith and how it helps us in the community and in the wider world. Classes are divided into Primary, Junior, Intermediate and High School years. Nursery care is provided for infants and toddlers.
“Cool Church” the kids call it…
That’s the name our Sunday School students chose for their program, to capture the special spirit of creativity, faith and fun at Northlea United Church.
Nursery care: Your infants and toddlers will be well-cared for in our safe, loving nursery.
JK – Grade 6: After sitting with you (or their friends) in the sanctuary for the first ten minutes of the service, your children will enjoy an activity-based curriculum designed specifically for the children of our church. They will learn key Bible stories and life lessons through a variety of workshops involving cooking, arts and crafts, games and music.
Grade 7 - 8: Up in the Youth Room, your kids will discuss moral values using a variety of real-world examples, drawn from rock music, current affairs and the core beliefs of the United Church.
For all ages: Throughout the year, Cool Church runs a variety of fun activities your children are welcome to attend games nights, movie nights, excursions to Raptors games and plays, congregational parties and musicals.
Katelyn loves teaching and loves youth. She has been at Northlea for four years now and is very happy being a part of the congregation. She loves movies, Jimmy Buffett and the Blue Jays!

Outside of church, Mitchell enjoys playing rugby, basketball and football. Laura is vice-president of the Leaside Athletic Association and a teacher at Zodiac Swim school and they look forward to seeing you in the primary class this year!!

Youth Group
The Northlea United Youth Group consists of youth grades 9-12. We are a group of bright, hilarious and socially-conscious youth who are fun and hard-working and are always looking for ways to help the community. This group meets regularly for a variety of activities. We have events such as Murder Mystery nights, Group Birthday parties, movie nights, and outings to mini-golf and bowling. We also have a monthly Sunday School class. Currently we are doing a series on world religions. Each class we dive into a different religion and learn their beliefs, customs and theologies. Come out and join us! Contact Katelyn McClure through the office for any further information on events or classes.
