Message from the Minister

The year 2010 celebrates a jubilee and a significant milestone in the life of Northlea United. As a Christian community of friends and family, we rejoice in our 60th anniversary; and we honour the founding vision and faith and adventure that took shape in Northlea School’s basement three-score years past.

We are different today than we were then. Through the years, so much has changed. We have both grown and shrunk. We are older and younger; wiser, in some ways, and less wise in others; evolved, and adapted, and …different. But one thing’s the same (thank goodness!) and that is: we’re a church made of people of faith. We have accepted the gift of our founders, and the legacy we share is our faith.

Come build a church with soul and spirit, to paraphrase Ken Medema;

Come build a church of flesh and bone.
Come build a church with human frailty.
Come build a church of flesh and blood.
Jesus shall be its sure foundation.
It shall be built by the hand of God.

This 60th Anniversary Photo Directory, is a snapshot of the congregation that we are. It’s just a snapshot. It’s neither comprehensive nor exclusive nor exhaustive. It is not this way intended. We miss the faces of the ones who are not here, or who are here no longer. But, hopefully, the photos capture something of the soul and spirit of this church of faithful people – human frailty, flesh and bone; smiles and frowns and gestures, colours and collections, old and young; faces full of wisdom, joys and faith and sorrows, and of laughter seasoned by tears.

This photo directory is a snapshot of an Anniversary Congregation, a snapshot of an Easter People. May its spirit of community and family and faith be a gracious source of Good News for us all.

Rev. Jim McKnight
